Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am seeking donations of snacks, chips, and candy to use as part of a rewards system in my 7th-grade Honors English Language Arts classroom this year. My students will be participating in a yearlong independent reading challenge, where they track the number of books they complete.
To help foster a love of reading, I’m creating a classroom incentive program that celebrates their progress and keeps them motivated as, page by page, they unknowingly work on their fluency, stamina, vocabulary exposure, and discover their love for reading and learning!
Each time a student finishes a book, they’ll be given a ticket that they can exchange for a small prize—something tangible to reinforce their achievement and keep them excited about the next story. They will also join in on a grade-wide "reading race" that will give each student who participates a spot on a racing chart that will track the number of books they complete while climbing a mountain. There will be extra challenges along the way that will give rise to a small competition amongst students as well. These rewards you are helping with will assist in building positive reading habits, recognizing student effort, and creating a fun, encouraging classroom environment.
Your donation will directly support student literacy and engagement by making reading feel rewarding, fun, and relevant in the mind of middle school adolescents. Any contributions—big or small—are deeply appreciated and will go a long way in helping these young scholars grow as readers.
Thank you for supporting our classroom and investing in the success of future thinkers, writers, and readers!
