Mrs. Holton from Highlands Ranch CO is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

My Students

Every child deserves to be able to access books that can be used to continue growth in reading and provide the structure needed for encouraging independent choices.

My students, grades K-6th, have a variety of different disabilities ranging from Autism, and Down's Syndrome to other cognitive and physical disabilities.

At times, this makes school and learning a challenge. What they do have in common is the ability to learn to read and the desire to independently select books at their level.

My Project

Often times the choices of the school and or public library are overwhelming for my students. Having a leveled reading library and storage system will allow my students to be able to access a variety of choices to read. The visual and physical structure of this library are optimal for the greatest independence. We will be able to track student's reading level, progress and interest in books. My student's will learn how to identify books at their independent reading level and make independent choices fostering their love for books and increasing their confidence as readers.

In a time when funding is low in schools, it is a sad reality that our most impacted learners are affected the most.

What district administrators see as "nonessential" for our most impacted students, are often seen as necessities for those who work the closest with these children. If I can provide my students with an opportunity to continue to develop their reading skills and give them a sense of independence we have opened up another avenue for which they can experience life.
