My Students

How excited where you when you had your first day of school and the teacher handed you the list of supplies you would need for school? You ran home and begged your parents to take you shopping because you had to have the materials for the next day. Well for my students this may not be possible.

The first graders in my classroom are always eager to learn no matter what background they come from.

These students attend a Title I school where 96% of the students receive free or reduced lunch. These first graders come from single parent homes or homes where one or more parent is unemployed or possibly they are homeless. Many of my students speak languages other than English at home but their families provide for them the best they can. The first graders in my classroom at times struggle with learning because of the lack of supplies and educational cutbacks.

My Project

My students need pencils, glue sticks, folders, and crayons. Having these basic school supplies will allow students to become organized with their school work. They will be able to be creative and imaginative and complete class and school work. Without these basic necessities for the students, students have a harder time learning. The literature center will help them bring the stories they have read to life.

I know that we all have financial troubles in some way or another, but if our students do not have the basic supplies they need to help reshape the world, what will our future look like?

Please help me to make this school year a success and not a struggle for my students.
