This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our students are in 8th grade at southwest side Chicago Public School. Most of our students are English Language Learners, and we have done our best to put a focus on honing their writing skills during 8th grade.
We work hard to make the writing class environment welcoming, relaxing, and inspiring.
We start each day by listening to a song to get ideas flowing and allow students to move around to comfortable spaces to work. Most of the day our students work in sterile, unwelcoming, identical classrooms. Our goal is to create a space that resembles our favorite spot to work, a cozy coffeeshop. We will use the record player to play our daily music and the plants will brighten up the space. The low coffee table will act as an alternative space for students to place their Chromebooks to write.
