Off the Floor! Classroom Cots to Rest, Relax, and Read

My students need durable rest cots for rest and read time to provide them a comfortable place to rest off the floor. Easy to clean, stackable, and will last for years.

My Students

Kindergartners are busy learning, exploring and growing every day. My kindergarten is a full day, everyday program. Rest time is valuable to my students academically, physically, and emotionally. It is important to me that my students have a comfortable place to rest and relax off the hard floor.

I work in a high poverty/low income district.

Our students are asked to bring a towel or mat to school to use for our rest time. Some students may bring a mat that has some cushion while others bring a simple towel, or nothing. I see to it that each student has some type of towel or blanket to lay on. One year I purchased the foldable mats for all my students. They were about $10 a piece, and they were ripped/wrecked by mid/end of the year, poor quality. The towels/blankets get dirty and are known to be great carriers of germs and lice, which I would like to prevent as much as possible in my classroom. For this reason I have to wash them often. It also becomes an issue finding storage for the various mats, towels and blankets and can often look messy disorganized. I would love to be able to fund these cots for my classroom as they will be easy to store/stack, easy to clean, and I know my students would be so happy to have a cot to lay on instead of a mat/towel on the floor.

My Project

By providing my students with these durable cots, students will have a comfortable, clean place to rest/relax at rest time. I can use these cots for years and years to come. The fabric that is used on the cot can easily be wiped clean each day. It provides my students a place to rest comfortably off the classroom floor. Every year I have some students who use rest time and sleep hard for 20 - 30 minutes, where others use it as a time to relax, read books, or listen to a read-a-loud. I like the idea of being able to quickly clean and stack the mats, providing a clean and organized environment, optimal for student learning.

I know my students and their families will be so grateful to have a comfortable place provided for their child to rest each day, instead of on the carpet.

A place to reenergize emotionally and physically so they are ready for all the learning and academic activities that their little brains and bodies engage in each day.
