This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Play is really the work of childhood. - Fred Rogers. In my kindergarten we are playing and learning in a STEMSS classroom that promotes learning science, technology, engineering, math, and social studies. Students are involved in creating, playing, building, problem solving, discovering, and more!

My kindergarten class is full of 25 students eager to learn and hungry for knowledge.

Most of my students come from military families. Some of them are second language learners. Many of them are from low income households. We are located in a rural community in Southwestern Arizona. Our school is a public school in a low socioeconomic area. Every year our budget is cut which directly affects our classroom supplies and lesson needs. The parents of my kindergarten students do their best to help. But so much more is needed to provide a 21st century classroom that will prepare my students for their future. My students want to learn and their parents expect that I'm getting their child college and career ready. Kindergarten is where it all begins and these littlest learners are ready to get the most out of their first year in school.

My Project

Having the necessary tools on hand in the classroom will help my students to be more efficient and keep them engaged. Magnetic writing boards are a fun tool and will help improve their writing. These young learners love technology and are in need of interactive software, listening centers that accommodate multiple students, science read alongs, and sight word practice materials that will improve their reading. Our science and math lessons need bucket balances that hold solid objects and liquid. In Social studies, we are in need of authentic clothing from the 1950's to complete our study about people of the past. A laminator, stapler and 3 hole punch will help my students publish their content writing reports, make class books, and create science journals right in the classroom. Age appropriate K'NEX building sets are needed for our engineering curriculum. Storage baskets are needed to store our supplies and projects neatly. All these materials will help keep our STEMSS class alive!

I want to be able to provide tools and supplies to not only improve their learning but to enhance their lives. STEMSS education is engaging my kindergarten students and creating a love of learning.
