Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students who will benefit from this project are identified as boys with special needs. They range from ages 8-11 years old. They're energetic, playful, and enjoy utilizing all forms of technology in the classroom environment.
These students are all special needs students who are far below grade level in reading, writing, and math skills.
Many of them have paraprofessionals to assist them with their behavioral and academic needs throughout the day. Some live in shelters and don't have a place to truly call home.
My Project
After collecting data on our students through various methods of testing, we've identified a core group of special needs boys that are far below grade level standards in reading, writing, and math skills. A special school counsel agreed that many of the academic shortcomings from these students stem from behavioral issues - poor social-emotional abilities to work with other students.
After identifying these students and their needs, we thought they would benefit from an extra curricular activity that would be utilized as an incentive for them to improve their ability to work with others in the classroom environment.
Many of these students struggle with behavior in the classroom environment and this project was created to help improve those areas of needs as a method to have the students work together in a rewarding learning environment.
