This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
At our Title I school in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, our economically disadvantaged students do not all have the same social opportunities and need to be exposed to a variety of emotional learning environments. Many of the most important lessons in life are not learned in the classroom or by hearing a teacher’s lectures. They are learned exponentially in everyday life. Oct-O Ball is the ultimate microcosm game for learning and applying important life skills.
Because the physically active game of Oct-O Ball has so much unpredictable action, it creates ideal in-the-moment environment to teach students essential life skills such as emotional regulation, positive social interaction, inclusion, and encouraging other.
The game takes only a few minutes to learn and doesn’t require the mastery of specific skills as is the case in traditional sports thus creating a level playing field for children of all athletic abilities to succeed. Once students learn and play the game, I'll use the fast-paced activity to reteach how each individual student is responsible for creating a safe and positive environment that will enhances greatly their ability to succeed in school, careers, and life.
