This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are full of wonder. At such a young age, they are always asking questions about why things are the way they are. They love exploring their surroundings. They notice that there are new flowers blooming in the grassy area of our school, and that the trees in the yard are starting to bloom. I can only imagine the thrill that they'll get if they were able to explore further, with the use of magnifying glasses and binoculars.
Most of my students come from low income families, and rarely leave their community.
They live in a highly populated area near downtown LA and don't have the opportunity to explore much of nature in their daily lives. I would love to provide them with the tools that would inspire them to explore more, and to have a greater appreciation for nature. Just because they live in the urban city, doesn't mean that they can't explore their surroundings and start to form questions. I would love to be able to expand their curiosity with the items purchases though this project and to instill in them a love for nature.
