Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

The oscilloscope is a popular device used in college within the domain of physics and my students will benefit from it because it will enable them to expand their knowledge in area of fundamental physics and they will be able to accomplish laboratory experiments effectively. I teach conceptual and AP physics in high school to students who live in a poor community of the state of California. 95 percent of the students are receiving free lunch because their parents have low income. My school is a charter school and has been known to help students to go to college.

My students are very fascinated about electricity and sound. They are very curious on how scientists predicted the speed of light and sound by doing various physics experiments. However, our school has a low budget in the science department. So, by using the oscilloscope, my student will definitely be able to further expand their knowledge in physics and be ready to take physics or engineering college courses.

The oscilloscope is such an important device used by university physics professors and engineers in the subject of electricity and sound. It actually measures the signal of various electronic devices. In the area of electricity, my students will be able to observe the characteristic of current versus voltage wave which is an important application to understand Ohm's law. Also, it will reinforce their understanding on common periodic waveforms produced by the oscilloscope such as sine, rectangle, triangle, and sawtooth. But in particular they will be able to observe how a capacitor is discharged over time and relate it to the exponential function. Also, my students will be able to compare and contrast between direct and alternative current using the mode operation of the oscilloscope. Furthermore, in the subject of sound wave, my students will be able to observe the wavelength, frequency, amplitude and period of various sounds. Also, they will be able to observe and further understand the Principle of linear Superposition which is the constructive and destructive interference of waves. Since universities are using the oscilloscope it will benefit my students because they will be prepared.

Your help will ensure that my students will be able to understand the wave signals of electricity and sound. The oscilloscope is such a fascinating device that current universities are requiring students to be able to use it efficiently. So, if my students obtain this device, then they will be ready to take physics courses offered by various universities.
