This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school garden has been needing an update. Teachers in the building would like the area to be a safe and fun environment for students to learn in all subject areas. Our plan is to clean our tables, pull out and cut back overgrown plants, planting new plants in the garden beds (some students have already done this while talking about the plant life cycle), updating the pond so it is functional, and set up weather tools.

We hope to create an ecosystem that we can observe and record information from.

One item that would be a great start to add in the area would be more bird feeders and a bird house that can help students learn about the life cycle of a bird. The excitement of seeing a nest full of eggs and wondering... how they got there, when will they hatch, how are they taken care of, when do they fly off. These are some of the questions that students wonder but can’t witness because the process takes time. However, with a Smart Bird Feeder those questions could now be answered by the students themselves. With the Smart Bird Home students will be able to observe the life cycle of a bird, explain the process to others because of the first hand experience, and make connections to other life cycles.
