My Students
My students have been in the same cohort since they started Elementary School. They are a Dual Language class and spend 50% of their day receiving instruction in Spanish and the other 50% in English. So in addition to the regular curriculum requirements, they are learning and building on a new language.
Literacy is a big focus in Third Grade. Although we are all on the same page in learning two languages, the reading levels of the students in this class vary from a student who can read 134 words per minute and another student who can read 10 words per minute. Regardless of where they start, I expect every single student to leave my classroom successful. And it's my job to make sure it happens.
My Project
These titles serve as mentor text based on our curriculum. Each title is for a different week of instruction and covers all aspects of the literature curriculum, including vocabulary and writing. Unfortunately, most of these titles are not available in our school library. Some books like Saturdays and Teacakes aren't even available from the public library!
Having these titles accessible in the classroom would be beneficial for our lessons and the students. If we own these books, we won't have to worry about returning the books on a certain day and students will be free to read them whenever they want.
