O Pioneers! - Reading Is an Adventure!

My Project

My students read Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck as a summer reading assignment. I would like to follow that reading assignment with Willa Cather's O Pioneers!.

Reading Cather's novel of the American frontier will allow my students to deepen their understanding of American history.

This project includes 75 copies of the novel, so each student can have their own copy. I've also asked for supplies that encourage good reading habits. As my students read each section, they will use different colored post-it-note flags to mark certain focus points, such as action, conflict and new understandings. The index cards are for partner work in which student write down their ideas and then share with different classmates. The snacks are a plus for reading stamina.
