Nuts for Non-Fiction!

My students need non-fiction book sets, such as life cycles, weather, stories that help make text to self-connections with and reading prompt cards for a leveled library.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Corkery's classroom raised $607

My Students

Non-Fiction books are fun, engaging, and educational. Even struggling readers, and non -English speaking students feel confidence when reading a non-fiction book. Help my budding readers get the confidence they need to gain a love of reading and learning!

We are a classroom of 33 fabulous and eager first grade in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

We are a title 1 school. We have a comfy library corner that is in need of a overhaul with new books to peek our interest and love of learning. We have very limited resources and very few new reading materials.

My Project

Amongst the seats in my classroom we have a variety of different leveled readers and non-english speaking students who fear text and print. My students need a leveled library from the end of Kindergarten reading level to the end of first grade. We need science non-fiction readers to spice up our guided reading groups. We need prompt cards to help us understand the features of non-fiction and connect with the text. We need readers that show a connection of realistic fiction to non-fiction and help us comprehend the difference. These materials will surely create a confidence amongst the class.

Teaching students to read on so many levels can be very challenging without the proper resources.

Even a lower performing reader can understand what's happening from a non-fiction book. The pictures, located directly under or over the easy-to-understand text, help create emotional responses to the information. Whether it is happy, sad, or something else helps a child retain the information. This helps gain confidence and a love of reading for all levels. With these materials, I can support all
