Nutritious Microgreen Feed US Mentally and Physically
Help me give my students the opportunity to connect knowledge learned in the Living environment materials by cultivating different microgreen seeds to small green plants under different source of light for food in short period of time.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Shetia's classroom raised $518
This project is fully funded
My Students
My students are smart and hard working. They come from various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. They work together collaboratively and learn from each other inside and outside the classroom in order to help each other to exceed in the field of science.
All my students are young scientists that need to be challenged more.
All of my eighth grade students take the ninth grade Living Environment Regents course and they sit for the Regents in June. They love to challenge themselves and work hard when there are engaged in hands-on labs and projects-based learning.
My students enjoy laboratory experiments. However, they wish to delve deeper and have richer experiences in order to connect and visualize what they read in their textbooks in order to solve real-life problems.
My Project
My students will investigate different approaches to growing our food in urban areas through growing microgreen in the school.
This will help them to visualize how their food grows in urban areas and will encourage them to build a model of their own hydroponic and aquaponic system on various scales to grow greens in short period of time in their homes.
In addition, this investigation will illustrate nutrient cycles in a small scale, the importance of all biotic and abiotic factors required microgreen ecosystem, how to increase carrying capacity of a population in short period of time, biochemistry (measuring pH level, nutrients, etc.), as well as evolutionary relationships between different plants.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
