My Students

I teach a group of energetic and motivated first graders. They are of mixed ethnicity that include Hawaiian, Samoan, Filipino and Caucasian. My students vary in academic levels, interests, behaviors, learning styles and economic status. All of them have different qualities that make them learn and grow in their own special ways. It is my job to make sure I provide specialized and differentiated experiences for my students! No two students learn the same way. It's my duty and honor to help support their learning by creating an abundance of unique learning opportunities.

My Project

Writing, counting and sequencing numbers are the basics of math for a first grader. Without these skills it will be extremely difficult for them to grasp much harder first grade concepts. My students would benefit from having materials that will help them master writing, counting and sequencing numbers. They will use these magnetic numbers, beads, tracing boards, counting games and number puzzles during math time as well as small group math time. When in small groups they will be able to work with friends to write letters correctly, count in order, and put numbers in order. While they practice in small groups, I will be able to pull the students who need extra support. I will use these same materials to model the skills listed above in order to help these students become more confident in their basic math abilities.
