My Project
Schools are places of learning, growth, and preparation for the future endeavors and challenges students will face. High school, in particular, has made it their ultimate goal to ensure that students have a plan for their post-secondary adventure, whether that includes exploring college/trade school, going straight into the work field, and/or going off to the military to serve our country in the various branches. Despite having all the hopes and dreams for the future, the present journey in High school could be considered a challenge in classes, particularly math, that could impact their future and confidence. Before COVID-19, Math anxiety was an issue, but due to the impacts of COVID-19, students feel lower in their self-esteem personally and academically, particularly in math class.
I plan to use the materials to transform and change the students’ attitudes toward math by adapting growth mindset strategies and building a supportive community that will bring a sense of belonging and responsibility to the Waianae, the State of Hawaii, USA, and the Global community, starting with my Geometry students from Waianae High School as they also prepare to reach proficiency on their Smarter Balanced Assessment.
I hope to receive support to change the mindset around math and help high schoolers reach their full potential.
