My Project
I love my class of Kindergarteners who are eager to engage their curious minds in learning foundational math and science skills through exploration and investigation with hands-on manipulatives, games, anchor charts, and interactive play. Their first year in school is critical for introduction, exposure, and continual practice to gain knowledge of numbers and how to make sense of them.
Kindergartners require hands-on, interactive, fun, and engaging math lessons as a premise for creating interest, collaborative conversations, and confidence in their abilities to recognize and identify numbers 1-20 in multiple ways, compare numbers as less and more, count 1-100, understand number patterns, including what comes before and what comes next, manipulate and calculate how many more and how many less, model how to compose and decompose shapes, and demonstrate how to start at a given number and count on.
These resources will expose my students to multiple formats to show numbers in another way and give them opportunities to do so independently, with partners, in small groups, and as a whole class. Additionally, they will encourage my students to collaborate and grow their social skills as well as fine motor and problem-solving skills.
My students love to play math games, and a giant Uno game will be perfect for number recognition and comparisons. The number anchor chart is exactly what my classroom needs to model how the numbers 1-10 can be shown in multiple ways, on fingers, a dice, and a ten-frame. The thermometer will be an excellent resource for my students to compare indoor and outdoor temperatures, collect ongoing data, analyze data, and calculate the results of how many days are greater than and less than a given temperature. Subsequently, students will recognize the importance of numbers in their daily life and how math and science are partners for life.
