My students are devoted to their education. They are enthusiastic about science, social studies, and writing! They love outdoor activities and enjoy Chromebook time.
They help each other and I can see them setting good examples for the younger kids on the playground.
The only thing that hinders us from easier accessible resources is funding. They already are active in fundraising in their community with lemonade stands, bake sales and garage sales (just to name a few).
They are just awesome!
The book, Number the Stars, will create the opportunity for engaged reading that teaches about some key themes of historical events while allowing students to make world connections with characters from the past.
Learning about and discussing details, while relating story to history, may reel students in to internalize each lesson throughout the month-long novel study.
Students will be able to work together to find text evidence relating to history, find other texts that are about a similar time period, and do hands-on activities that are both engaging and rigorous.
By combining history into ELA lessons, it brings more learning opportunities for students and creates background knowledge for future standards students will be tested on.
