This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are children whose first language is not English. In our classroom, we have students who speak Spanish, Cantonese, Farsi, and Hindi. Learning English as a second language could be seen as a disadvantage, but we are teaching them to use their skills in positive ways. My goal is to help these students become bilingual, hard-working American citizens, and fortunately, they are eager learners with a lot to offer. Each day they bring me joy and I am excited to see them succeed!
My Project
Number sense can be difficult to teach. The ETA Daily Math Fluency Kit will help me to daily work with my kids struggling with number sense.
I believe the daily, systematic, hands-on focus of this kit will bring about great gains in learning.
I love how it uses real-world problems, visuals, and manipulatives to teach the concepts of subitizing, doubles, counting on and back, using known facts, getting to ten, and using ten and adjust. Math skills in the higher grades just build on these concepts.
My plan is to use this resource with my students who are struggling in 2nd grade. Their classes are zooming ahead and these friends need some time to go back to the basics.
