Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is home to two classes of 20 fifth graders, each with a big heart filled with curiosity and an enthusiastic drive to learn more. I know this because I taught this group of students during the 2016-2017 school year when they were third graders! My students are in a fifth-grade Math and Science classroom at a Title I school in the Washington Heights neighborhood of upper NYC. Ninety-four percent of students receive free or reduced-price lunch, and 30% are English language learners. Like most children, my students love having hands-on experiences and I want ALL of my students to be able to have access to their own personal learning needs!
Inspiring my students to learn with a hands-on, engaging environment is the mission in the classroom.
At the end of the year, I want my students to say, "This was the best year in math, ever!" My students deserve the best math education I can give them and I desire to be able to provide a mathematical education that will encourage my students to reach for the stars!
My Project
My students need flexible seating options to help learn more about their individual learning styles and learn tolerance for differences between learning styles. Encouraging students to find their best method of learning and accepting others creates a very positive classroom community.
This Nugget Comfort will give students a flexible seating choice that is comfortable so that they feel safe and motivated to learn in their classroom environment.
The nugget is a couch with endless possibilities. This couch has four pieces that can be moved around the classroom to fit each students needs. You can use one piece or all four to make a perfect seating option. Since this piece of furniture is lightweight and long lasting, it won't need to be replaced regularly like the bean bag chairs that we currently have.
