My Students

Imagine trying to navigate an English language world when you are just learning to read in your native language, Spanish.

I teach ESL students in grades Pre-K through 5.

Many of my students are just beginning to learn to read in both English and their native Spanish. They are working diligently to learn to communicate with their English-speaking peers, and to keep up with all of their class work. They are making progress every day, but I want to do everything possible to support them as they learn a new language.

My Project

This giant classroom carpet has a variety of basic vocabulary words in both English and Spanish, with pictures to match. Not only will this carpet serve as a great place to gather for small group lessons, it will also help students to practice their vocabulary words. The bean bag chairs will quickly become the most coveted seats for independent work time, and will be a great way to reward star students.

My students face many of the same challenges as their peers, but they also face the incredible challenge of becoming bilingual.

This carpet is such a simple way to build language skills and class unity. Thank you so much in advance for supporting and encouraging the efforts of these students!
