I teach a group of students from a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds. I believe that every single student in my classroom harbors a significant amount of knowledge and curiosity about the world around them.
When given the appropriate tools, they are able to create amazing products and can even go above and beyond what is expected.
I truly enjoy working with my students because I know that they are learning skills that they will carry with them in their postsecondary endeavors.
In general, the conference focuses on providing a variety of tools and resources to successfully implement STEM education into schools and communities. Overall, I chose this PD opportunity because it provides a variety of multimodal pedagogical strategies with real-world connections to engage students with the content. Although I am currently in my third year in the classroom, this is my first year teaching a completely new content area (from two years of Biology to Physical Science). After going through the list of sessions, I personally believe that the wide variety of content from educators across the country will expose me to new instructional strategies that will greatly develop students into critical thinkers as they analyze scientific phenomena in their communities.
