This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember sitting on a clean rug and imaginating what it is like to be the character in the book. my students are not able to do that because they don't have a rug. They are currently reading their books at their desks.Help my children find a relaxing place to read.
I teach a wonderfully diverse 2nd grade class.
it is an inclusion class in a high needs community public school in the South Bronx. The students range from intervention to enrichment. Some of the students read at a kindergarten level and some children are reading on a 3rd grade level. One thing that they all have in common is that they love to read. Unfortunately we don't have a rug where they can sit and enjoy a book.
My Project
A rug is essential to any elementary school classroom. It's uses are endless. We would use the rug as a gathering place to discuss topics that we are interested in. We would also use it as a quiet place to read books. It can be used for whole group instruction such as read aloud and morning routines but it is a very important tool especially in an inclusion class. It is a safe place where students discuss their feelings or take a break with a book to calm down. It is a way to gather the students together as a class
This project is important because every child needs a special place to relax, read and let their imagination run free.
By donating this rug my students will get lost in their books.
