Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students at our elementary school are inquisitive, energetic, and creative. They happily come to art class to learn new ideas, practice art skills, and create art. They feel successful when they create something new that they didn’t know they could make. They are proud of themselves and want to share what they’ve made and learned with each other. They also learn that making mistakes makes them a better artist through practice.
Being able to successfully deliver instruction keeps students engaged and on task for the short one hour art class each week.
This can be a challenge since our art class sizes vary between 18 to 45 students. This means I teach a almost 500 students a week! Students love learning how to draw and create from guided YouTube videos, seeing videos and images of new art forms and artists embedded in their lessons, and taking virtual field trips around the world.
My Project
Using the Promethean whiteboard and a large screen television are an essential daily activity in my art classroom to present and deliver PowerPoint lessons with imbedded art tutorials. Many times I cannot find a tutorial with a demonstration for the exact lessons I need to teach. When I present demonstrations to my many double classes that contain 30 to 45 students, it is hard for all students to see the demonstrations I need to show them. By using a document camera I can ensure that students will be able to see what I’m doing with the art materials. These demos are key to students understanding what they need to do. In art, how to use materials is key to being able to create art.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their artistic achievement.
Students will be able to focus on demonstrations rather than struggling to see them. Plus in this technology literate world, any interaction with updated technology is exciting for them to see.
