My Project
The students and staff at our middle school know the struggle we have faced in the library the last few years to get our shelves updated and relevant. In 2019, when I was first hired, more than 73% of our books were considered "aged." In our fiction section, only 115 of our holdings were from 2010 or later. When students entered, they saw tattered spines, outdated books, and topics that just did not relate to them. We have worked hard to get our book collection updated. With limited access to funds, we have scoured used book sales, relied on generous donations, and have done some major rehabilitation on broken or torn spines. The work is paying off as our students are far more engaged in the library, and circulation has dramatically increased.
But so many books geared to the middle level reader are written in series, that we just cannot keep up with getting the next volume in the set.
We have missing books from many of our most popular series. Sometimes one in a set is lost; other times it is so well-read it has fallen apart; but mostly, we just have not been able to purchase it due to lack of funding. This project has been created in the hopes that we can complete the most read series. We would love to be able to give our students that missing piece to end the cliff hangers, to solve the mystery. Help us give them the end of the story!
