This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are special because they are the ones that will change the world. They are curious of the world around them and they want to make a change. My students, although 5th graders, come into my classroom with varying grade levels. Some enter in as beginning readers, some as seventh grade readers. In my class it is my job to level the playing field and ensure that they all get an equal opportunity to the quality education they deserve.

You need to see the look in my students' eyes when they get a new book to truly see the capability they have.

It may only be about 24 hours until they come to me with a finished book and a hunger for more worlds they can read about. They are truly amazing and are the smartest, most hard working 10 year olds I know.

My Project

I have been so lucky to get projects funded for my first, second, and third grade readers and now it is time to reach my on-level kiddos! Not only will these books give my on-level students more practice, but it will inspire my low-level readers to keep improving so they can one day reach grade level! My kids have the ability to increase 2 years worth of reading all in one school year, they just need to materials to do so!

It is my job as their teacher to motivate students who are below grade level while also challenging students who are already on grade level; these books can do that.

I am so proud to work at a school where we serve the most hardworking students in San Antonio. My students deserve the best, but are many times not offered the opportunities and resources that they need. These novels will help them become excited with reading and ultimately become lifelong readers.
