it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our fifth grade students are today's scholars and tomorrow's leaders who are curious, enthusiastic, creative, and eager to immerse themselves in any kind of challenge! In addition to academics, our students practice making positive human connections with daily choices that support R.I.S.E.—Respect, Integrity, Safety, and Excellence, and they are recognized monthly for demonstrating these character traits.
We are excited to begin novel studies this year, with Sophia’s War: A Tale of the Revolution, by Avi, an engaging novel that explores many themes, including “betrayal, patriotism, espionage, and the complexities of war, explored through the eyes of a young spy, Sophia Calderwood, during the American Revolution.”
Our fifth grade team has mapped out a year-long curriculum that introduces students to grade-appropriate novels that are engaging, and have aligned our novel choices with our state standards for english language arts, social studies, and science.
We are requesting a class set of Sophia’s War and a few supporting resources to use during our novel study. These books will support learners at all levels, and we appreciate your kindness tremendously with helping us get started on this new adventure of providing novel studies for our fifth graders.
