Nourishing Hearts: Students Giving Back to Senior Citizens

Help me give my students supplies to create snack care packages and handmade bracelets for local seniors with low income. These items will help students practice compassion by providing support and encouragement to others in their community.

My Project

In our rural community, many seniors face food insecurity and loneliness. Through this project, my students will learn compassion by taking action to support them. They will organize a food drive, assemble care packages for the Lincoln Senior Center, and include handmade friendship bracelets as a lasting reminder that someone cares.

Students will see through another’s eyes:

Students will meet and interact with seniors at the local Senior Center. They will reflect on the challenges many seniors face, helping them build empathy and a deeper understanding of others' experiences.

Students will alleviate suffering:

They will collect snacks, assemble care packages, and create friendship bracelets with uplifting messages. These packages will provide both physical nourishment and emotional support to the seniors.

I will measure success by:

Student reflections, classroom discussions, and feedback from the senior center. Students will write about what they learned and how their understanding of compassion has grown.

This project will show students that compassion means taking action—and that small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
