Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a new school, my students lack the equipment needed for sports and physical activity. However, to increase their health and stamina and to promote active lifestyles, my students need equipment. I want all of my students to have the opportunity to become healthy, lifelong learners.

My students are 99% Hispanic and from East Los Angeles.

93% of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Most of my students' families do not speak English. My school opened its doors to 450 sixth, seventh and eight grade students as of August 2016. We have a very strong and positive school culture focused on the whole child, academic and college success. My students focus on being not only to great students, but also good citizens in the community. Our students here are nice, friendly, and wish for success in their futures!

My Project

Our Middle school students are utilizing technology on a daily basis. The need to integrate this technology into any subject area is at an all-time high. Physical education is no exception to this. For too long assessment in PE has been informal or subjective. Students are told to “work hard” and teachers use simple observation to assess whether or not that is happening. With Heart Rate Monitors my students will be provided with accurate and real time data on how hard they are working.

They will now understand how it FEELS to work hard and teachers will know who IS working hard.

HR monitors would help bring PE into the 21st century.
