Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a special education teacher with a special interest in serving students with dyslexia and other reading challenges.
I serve in a majority-minority Title I school where all students received free breakfast and lunch.
All students at my school have limited access to books but my students, those with reading disabilities, face additional difficulties finding books they can read. Intermediate level struggling readers require books with interest levels for pre-teen students but at readability levels of primary students. My students have a passion for reading, but limited resources.
My Project
These books will empower my students to expand their knowledge base and develop into life long learners. Although basic reading/ phonics skills are a challenge for my students, they are bright capable individuals who deserve the chance to have a variety of quality books at their disposal. Your help will provide my students access to books they can read on topics of interest to intermediate level students. These books will be utilized in my classroom for independent reading, guided small group reading, and literature circle opportunities. These books will open doors to cultural proficiency and social-emotional learning which will help my develop academically and emotionally.
