Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

My students are very special because despite having some major gaps in their education, along with many of them coming from households that lack a focus on education, the majority of my students still have a drive to better themselves. They know education is one way to strive to be better.

I would like to use interactive notebooks with my 8th Grade ELA students.

Organization is a very important factor in the academic success of our middle schoolers, and many of my students struggle with this skill. I believe these notebooks will increase student achievement.

Interactive notebooks are an excellent tool to help keep them organized. In addition, these notebooks become an important resource and portfolio of their work and learning. Each page builds on the next one so it shows their academic progression throughout the school year. Interactive Notebooks are powerful educational tools. One of the key benefits of using Interactive Notebooks is that they enable students to be creative and independent thinkers and writers. They meet the needs of a variety of learning styles, and they allow visual learners to explore new ways to share ideas. Interactive Notebooks help students to systematically organize while they learn. Students use Interactive Notebooks to organize their thoughts and ideas, and they become portfolios of individual learning. These creative notebooks become records of each student’s growth.

Interactive Notebooks are a work in progress, and allow students to learn from their mistakes. In addition, Interactive Notebooks are valuable study tools. All of the information needed for each unit is contained inside the Interactive Notebook. Plus, they are fun, hands on, and engaging. The activities we complete in our notebooks bring with them high levels of student engagement. Interactive Notebooks allow students to develop pride and ownership over their work.
