My Students

My students are resilient, kind, young adults at a Title I school. Many of them struggled immensely last year during distance learning. The struggle continues this year as we try to build back some of the academic stamina and social-emotional skills that students need to feel confident, safe, and supported at school.

Students have been reluctant to talk with each other in an academic setting, but have come alive with some of the limited resources available to foster group task-oriented activities or games.

It is my hope that providing them with more structured opportunities to tap into missing academic skills and grow their social and emotional skills will make them even stronger, more resilient students in the long run.

My Project

As students have returned from an isolating year of distanced learning, I have noticed three areas of struggle: they are needing a strong, organized resource to manage classroom material, they long for stories that connect with their emotions and experiences, and they want structured yet fun ways to reconnect with their classmates.

This project will provide them with a three-pronged approach to build up both their content area ELA skills and their social-emotional wellness at the same time by providing students with notebook resources, novels, and interactive games so that our classroom thrives as a safe space for learning and personal growth.

Students will benefit from colorful and organized additions to their academic notebooks, literature that captivates them, and easy-to-play group games.

This project will address multiple Nevada Academic Content Standards, including, but not limited to RL.10.1-6, W.10.1-7, SL.10 1-4.
