My Project

Being an Elementary School Counselor, I am always looking for ways to help students - not only socially and emotionally, but academically as well. Being able to prepare students and help teach valuable life skills is not only a blessing but rewarding as I watch my students grow.

This year, all 5th grade students will participate in the First Annual Middle School Bootcamp.

Still seeing the effects of Covid (these students were in 1st and 2nd grade at the time), I've seen students who lack confidence in themselves, have increased anxiety, and have trouble coping with life in general. I'm organizing a Middle School Bootcamp for all 5th grade students. After consulting with current Middle School Counselors and asking what I can do to help prepare them, I decided to coordinate a 3 Day Bootcamp where students can practice switching classes on their own, learning valuable topics such as how to open a combination lock, dangers of social media, note-taking tips, organizational skills, YOGA, healthy friendships, conflict resolution, and other topics. We have invited CrimeStoppers, local law enforcement, Social Workers, and other important people to talk about all things in middle school and beyond.

Since one of the topics is organization, I am asking for each student to have their own 3 ring binder where they can put their schedule, handouts, and other important papers to help teach them HOW to keep things organized. Unfortunately, with 130 students, it is very expensive - which is why I am asking for donors. Students will learn how to use their binders as a tool, keep a neat notebook, calendar, and may earn a prize at the end.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I am working hard to build future leaders.
