My Project
I teach in a school that is culturally and linguistically diverse. My 2nd graders are kind and inquisitive little human beings who thrive on opportunities to move and express their creativity, emotions, and energy. We are often singing, dancing, and making art as well as working on the core subjects of reading/language arts and math. There is a lot of joy in my classroom!
Writing is arguably the most complex skill for students to learn, and my grade level colleagues and I are always looking for ways to improve our instruction and make writing concepts easier for children to understand.
When taught well, writing can improve overall literacy skills, including reading comprehension and the acquisition of content knowledge. It can also give students opportunities to use their voices for self-expression and creativity.
After spending considerable amount of time this summer doing some research and attending professional development classes, I found some resources that would help us teach writing more effectively, more explicitly, and which truly address the skills we wish our students to use. What's more, these resources would help us make writing not only easier, but more engaging and more fun!
I would like to request Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards to purchase writing resources from the Teachers Pay Teachers online store of The Not So Wimpy Teacher (a.k.a. Jamie Sears). She offers a writing bundle that includes specific lessons and materials on teaching different genres, including personal narrative, fiction, opinion, and informational writing. The total balance of the gift cards would be used primarily for Not So Wimpy Teachers writing lessons which will be shared across the grade level through multiple licenses, and whatever is left over would go towards purchasing other resources related to language arts instruction.
