This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have the privilege of teaching at an elementary school in southwest Washington, D.C. We are a Title I focus school. We have some truly phenomenal students at our school who come to school each morning full of energy, questions, and wonder. They are truly amazing humans and deserve all necessary support to meet their goals.
I am making a shift in our classroom to some project-based learning and independent study.
My students are going to be using technology to create their own informational research projects and we need tools to do this.
My Project
Testing in our school is abundant in 3-5th grades. It is an overwhelming reality, and my students have little to no technology skills. In order to prepare them to type and express themselves fully, we need iPads in our room for them to work with.
Exposure to technology will help my students gain writing expression skills, and using the QWERTY keyboard will get them used to typing.
We have a few iPads in our room, but we definitely need more!
These iPads will be used for typing, especially on research projects. My aim is to teach my students how to navigate the world wide web, and research for information independently.
