Not All Balls Are Created Equal

Help me give my students a variety of balls and equipment to further their investigation of balls and develop their gross motor skills.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Snodgrass's classroom raised $509

My Students

My 3 year-olds are some of the most amazing children I have ever met. They thrive while living in one of the most dangerous communities in our nation's capital. Some have gone through more in their young lives than many of us will ever have to endure in a lifetime. Yet every day, they walk down a hill to school where they are able to escape the violence that riddles their neighborhood and find solace in our classroom. Despite all of the challenges they face outside the school walls, they still come to school each day ready and excited to learn.

My students blossom with the educational and enrichment opportunities being offered, which helps them to build their background knowledge and exposes them to things they otherwise wouldn't be exposed to.

For all of them, coming to school is where they have opportunities to build their academic and social foundations to set them up for success later in life.

My Project

Not all balls are created equal. Some balls are squishy, some are hard, some bounce and some don't. These are all characteristics of balls our students are studying and investigating. As we begin our study on balls our students are showing great interest in spots and lack the equipment and experiences at home to develop their skills.

Students will use the balls to further develop their gross motor skills while learning to play different sports and develop good sportsmanship.

Students have shown a particular interest in football, soccer, and baseball. The footballs will be used to develop their throwing skills while the soccer balls will be used to develop their kicking skills. We will use the ball and glove sets in combination with the t-ball sets to develop their catching and hitting skills. The other balls will be used to compare and contrast to what we already know about balls as well as develop throwing, tossing and kicking skills. The goals, basketball hoop, hula hoops and rings will be used as targets to practice accuracy and refine their skills.

With these materials, students will be able to engage in exploration, investigation, and cooperative play while exploring and playing together.
