Nonfiction Reading Promotes Success

My students need nonfiction texts, such as Scholastic Magazines to improve literacy.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Tired of reading the same boring stories over and over? Well no more reading just fictional texts. How about reading more current and nonfictional texts? Students love to read! However, they get tired of reading just fictional texts or reading only a few nonfictional texts.

My students come from a low socioeconomic area.

100% of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Despite their economic background, these students strive to become productive, articulate, and responsible citizens. These students are developing as intrinsically motivated and independent learners. They come from a school where the staff is dedicated to working collaboratively as a professional learning community to ensure that all students receive an education that reflects data driven decisions, current curriculum, and researched based practices.

My Project

Students will become better readers. They will be able to learn to read text for meaning. They will learn how to understand what they are reading and learn how to look for information. The students will also enjoy reading more current events on a weekly basis. Reading nonfiction texts will also help build their fluency skills. In addition, it helps students develop their background knowledge. Overall, nonfictional texts will provide a curriculum in a way that draws on language and reading skills.

The donations for this project will improve my classroom because it will give my students a sense of excitement in reading new material, especially nonfiction texts.

If students read more nonfiction texts, they will be expected to develop their research skills across content areas. They will learn more vocabulary, become more proficient readers, find reading more enjoyable, and thus continue to read more and become ever better readers.
