This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In my class, we have independent reading time twice a day. The children choose big pillows, beanbags, or wobble chairs and find a comfy place to settle into in the room. They self-select books that we have read in class or that are in the classroom library. If they want they can also add a stuffed animal. We have many realistic-looking stuffed animals that are the characters in many of our fictional and nonfiction books. They can read by themselves or with a friend or two. Our library is filled with fictional texts, and we have a small nonfiction basket.

The My Incredible World Picture Book series would be a great addition to our nonfiction classroom library!

The children love looking at nonfiction books that are filled with amazing photographs and informational text. We have a few of the My Incredible World Picture Books, the books requested would give us an almost complete set. The children are quiet, loud, joyful, and fully engaged all at the same time. They create a murmur of conversation throughout the room when they are having independent reading time. It is one of my favorite times of the day.

The animals previously mentioned are also the animals that make up the majority of the books requested in this project. I like to have days where we only look at nonfiction books and then pair up a stuffed animal with each book. The children discover new books every time we do this activity.
