Nonfiction Discovery

My Students

I teach fourth grade at a diverse, Title I school in southwest Florida. Our students come from numerous cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Through lots of hard work, our school continues to help our students succeed.

I've worked hard this year to develop their love of reading through fictional novels but want to expand their horizons to include a passion for nonfiction reading as well.

I am a recent transplant to Florida and sadly had to leave most of my library behind when I moved. I a desperately trying to rebuild my library and am now focused on the nonfiction, informative text section.

My Project

Reading, reading, reading is the emphasis in my classroom. Introducing more nonfiction reading is a priority at this point in time. Learning to love nonfiction reading is going to benefit my students in so many ways, none the least helping them prepare for the type of text they will encounter during standardized testing. The nonfiction titles included in this project list are a basic starting point for me to help my students develop a love of this genre and strength in this type of reading. Helping me offer my class engaging nonfiction text will go a long way, this year and for years to come!
