Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

My Students
My students are in a Two Way Immersion Program (90:10 model) where they are becoming completely bilingual. They are learning to speak, read, and write in both English and Spanish. 98% of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch. My school receives special funding for all students to receive free breakfast and lunch. 98% of my students are also minorities (primarily African American and Hispanic).
My students face many daily challenges, but that does not stop them from coming to school each day eager to learn in both languages.
My students learn to speak both languages with native fluency. I want to help them continue to learn by being able to use donors choose to bring them resources we do not currently have.
My Project
My leveled classroom library currently lacks nonfiction books. I have chosen titles from Amazon Business that both interest my students and match our standards in science and social studies.
Nonfiction books are essential to a child's learning because they are their key to learning about the outside world.
Nonfiction books allow us to see the outside world in the real photographs. They also allow us to see our science and social studies curriculum come to life before their eyes.
My students would love to get their hands on some new leveled nonfiction books to read during read to self-time!
