My Students

I teach Physical Education to 7th and 8th grade students at a Title I school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. My students have a range of physical abilities that have not been properly nurtured because of the lack of equipment and physical education. My students are the leaders of tomorrow because they know what it's like to work hard in order to be successful. Their home life may not make it easy for them, but they have the thirst for learning and the desire to make the best of the hand that they have been dealt. The most effective way to meet the needs of such a diverse group of students is to differentiate educational content to their specific strengths and areas of growth. All my students are capable of learning and deserve the same opportunity as their peers to further their knowledge in health and develop new skills. My students need to be exposed to different games and cultures that will broaden their perspective and make them better citizens for tomorrow.

My Project

This year we are focusing on introducing non-traditional games that students can play with friends and family. By having an outdoor speaker that will be used to engage and motivate my students to stay active, the teacher can give instruction indoors and outdoors at all times with the wireless microphone. By being introduced to games like spike ball, Go Gater disc golf, and ladder ball the students will play new games that they will be able to take home and stay active with their friends and family.

We will also be able to bring music and non-traditional games to our community Field Day.

Two years ago we got 10 Chromebooks donated to us and the students love using them in our PE lessons. They use them in a variety of ways in our class; like watching videos about games rules and teaching skills, creating Google Slides for projects, recording each other performing skills and self-assessing each other. The Chromebook locker will allow us to push the laptops outdoors and it will keep them safe.

By being able to gift them with items to make their learning fun and more special they will continue to work hard. A little appreciation goes a long way to students and my students give so much.
