My students need leveled non-fiction books -- levels R through V -- to help us learn about the world around us!

My Students
Our school has no real library, so the only books my students have to read are the books in our classroom library. Although we have quite a few fiction books, we have hardly any non-fiction books, and it's important that my students learn to read non-fiction books to learn about their world.
I teach 26 Fifth graders at one of the charter schools that opened in an area that was devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
My students are African American, Vietnamese, and Hispanic, and many of them live in poverty. Many of my students haven't ever had access to a school or public library, so our classroom books are very important to each of them.
My Project
We need leveled non-fiction books -- levels R through V -- to help us learn about the world around us! Non-fiction books are wonderful resources for inquisitive students to use. With the addition of a non-fiction library, my students will be able to learn how to research topics that interest them. Last year my class had only the Internet to get information for their research papers, but this year I want my students to learn how to extract valuable information from books as well. These leveled non-fiction books come in leveled book bins that will make it easy for my students to quickly find an interesting book at their own reading level.
Please help support literacy and love for reading in my classroom by funding this non-fiction book project!
Imagine the impact these books will have on students who have never really had access to such books before. Help us on our journey of discovery, one book at a time!
