My students need leveled non-fictional books to inspire them to learn about the world they live in and to inspire the reading process while creating opportunities for future goals, knowledge, learning and inspiration in their lives.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are 5,6 & 7 years old. My students are eager to read. My students come from diverse backgrounds. My school is 100% a free breakfast and lunch, Title One school. My school serves pre-K through first grade at-risk students.
My students are asking for more books!
Non-fiction books are interesting learning tools for learning to read. They are eager and excited to see what they will be reading everyday. My students love to pick out a new book every day to read. My students deserve high-quality, challenging, and accessible non-fiction leveled readers and all the experiences to go with learning to read. My students deserve to have high quality books that are culturally diverse, interesting, thus creating a high quality learning environment with various options in reading books and subjects to learn about.
My Project
I am requesting a collection of "Explore The World Around You Non-Fiction" leveled readers from my favorite book company, Pioneer Valley, for 60-70 first grade students who attend my daily guided reading groups. I see small guided reading groups all day. My small groups of children are so excited to see what exciting books I have for them. They ask, "Mrs.D, what is our new book today?" It is so exciting to be part of teaching young children to read. My goal is to provide inspiration and the building blocks for a richer life through reading.
My project will improve the lives of my students through providing an opportunity to learn about the world, while learning to read.
