Help me give my students the ability to listen clearly to one another as they participate in discourse when working in breakout rooms and logging on from home.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Can you remember a time when you needed earphones to listen to your teacher or classmates? Currently, earphones are a vital tool for learning. Many of many students haven't been to school in nearly 18 months. Some just arrived from South America and the Carribean with little or no schooling. Regardless if they were participants of remote or in-person learning all of the students who relied heavily on technology. The city supplied Ipads for students to work from. However, not all students received earphones. In addition, the earphones supplied by the school were not the best quality.
My scholars deserve the opportunity to log on from their devices, be able to listen and participate in discource without noise pollution.
They live in an urban community that was hit hard during the pandemic. In addition, they attend a Tier I school with limited resources. Despite the adversities faced my scholars are resilent students who survived and exceled during a difficult school year.
My Project
Noise pollution affects student engagement and learning. No longer can we use the phrase a "normal school year". In the midst of a global pandemic there is an uncertainty about returning to school full time. If quarantine occurs my students will work from home with their devices. However, not all students have earphones to use when they are home. This can result in students not engaging in the lesson due to the distractions and noise pollution at home. Those who do participate are not always clearly heard as there is background noise that interferes with everyones learning.
