This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In Mrs. McGee's room, you will find love laughter, learning, exploring, creating, dreaming and achieving!
I teach developmental preschool (ages 3-5), and our classes are made up of eight children with special needs, and four typically developing peer models.
Our fabulous class is made up of the most amazing bunch of 3-5 year olds on the planet! I teach preschool in Wilmington, Ohio and it is an exciting and busy place in our room!
We are a diverse school low income district. For many of my students, the safest, most loving and positive parts of their day are when they are at school! I am so passionate about my little youngsters and feel that God couldn't have chosen a better career for me! I learn as much from them as they do me, and I am so honored that I get to work such amazing students each day!
My Project
In my preschool classroom, play is the focus for learning and most skills that I teach my students are through play!
Learning through play is a term used in education and psychology to describe how a child can learn to make sense of the world around them.
Through playing during our center time, my students are developing social and cognitive skills, maturing emotionally, and gaining the self-confidence required to engage in new experiences and environments!
Key ways that young children learn include playing, being with other people, being active, exploring and new experiences, talking to themselves, communication with others, meeting physical and mental challenges, being shown how to do new things, practicing and repeating skills and having fun! By using pretend play materials (i.e dollhouse, appliances, furniture etc.) and manipulating dolls using different voices to represent various family members or scenarios, students are imitating real world experiences and practicing oral language in fun, and meaningful ways. They are able to retell stories and develop social emotional skills with their peers. The science and sensory table materials allow them to explore and investigate, think and create! These materials are essential to their growth during this time in our school day!
