My students need arts and crafts materials like string art kits, duct tape, origami papers, a button maker, adult coloring books, colored pencils, and D.I.Y. project guide books for our low-tech Makerspace.
Our school is a title I school located in Oklahoma City’s diverse Mid-Town area. Our school serves a multicultural population of students and their children. Emerson’s library program develops research skills, fosters independent reading, encourages exploration and creativity through S.T.E.A.M. related projects, as well as, facilitate cooperation through game and team building activities. Unfortunately, without any sort of budget, collection development and continuous growth prove difficult. My student patrons are resourceful, resilient, and reflective readers who are raising Their children to do the same. Together, we are hoping that your generosity and support will help turn our obstacles into accessible opportunities!
My Project
Art plays a role in helping people through difficult times.For many of my student patrons, everyday is a difficult one. The art and craft materials like origami papers, string art, duct tape, colored pencils, and a button maker, will make a difference in the lives of students by giving them a creative outlet to combat traumatic experiences ike generational poverty and teen pregnancy. Library art programs can directly and indirectly affect teen civic engagement by facilitating the development of social capital, offering opportunities to engage, and allowing teens to guide their own actions.

The ultimate goal of this project is for teens to gain tangible skills and find an immediate outlet for self-expression which is vital for their psychological well-being.
