My Project

I love coming to work every day because I get to share my love of art, history, and mathematics with my students. In return, they are teaching me about their personal culture. Most of my students come from low-income homes where they experience many struggles daily. But do they show this? No, they show me that the world will not bring them down and that they are excited to learn something new every day when they walk into my room.

As middle schoolers, life tends to be pretty chaotic, and hunger strikes often.

No matter the circumstance, they all have days where they forget or lack access to food, whether it be something small like forgetting to eat or having access to breakfast. I will also use these snacks during class as a reward system for students to earn for good behavior. Our school uses PBIS as a support program to reward good behavior.

Funding for this project will provide a safe and normalized space in my art classroom where students will have access to feel safe to discuss their hunger needs knowing I am always willing to help without judgment. No student should have to worry about hunger needs being unmet, no matter the reason why. Therefore, this project will ensure all my students know exactly where to go when, inevitably, life gets a little chaotic again.

Thank you for your consideration in supporting our wonderful students. This will be the eighth time I have asked for snacks for my students. I can honestly tell you they are very appreciative. I have many visitors during lunch and after school to ask if they may have a snack. I am so happy that my students know where to go.
