My Students
My school is in a high poverty area. Thirty-five percent of my students come from countries other than the United States. Many of these students are refugees from the countries of Burma, Nigeria, and Honduras. Many of my students are unable to afford necessary school supplies, and many of them have unfounded fears and concerns about people who are different from them. They are kind and caring students who have not had the opportunity to see what kind of beauty there is in learning from people who have had different experiences than they have. These students are eager to learn and love doing projects without the use of a textbook. What is so special about my students is that they are eager and excited to learn new things; they just need a little help being successful!
My Project
My students are in a coding class and are in need of headphones to listen to the short video clips in the program. With students working at their own pace, everyone watches the video at different times. Can you imagine how distracting it is for middle school students to try to focus when other people in the class are watching a video? Very.
Middle school students are very excited about coding and love seeing the instant gratification of what they change on their screen, instantly hitting their tablets; however, they need to also be able to hear the information!
Your contribution will help my students stay on task and engaged with their Project Lead The Way materials.
