My Students

My students are like flowers beginning to open their pedals to the sun.

They are all at an early stage of acquiring literacy and and they need daily practice with these new literacy skills.

I love their perseverance, persistence and willingness to take risks even when everything is difficult. We teach our students that mistakes are right on the edge of their learning. Who can resist a student who says, "This book looks hard, but I can try!" They surprise me with their fortitude everyday!

My Project

Imagine being out of school for weeks while everyone is "social distancing" and you receive a package from your teacher telling you she has some wonderful new adventures for you to explore. As you open the envelope new books spill out chosen especially for you! Even the most reluctant reader will grab a book and begin reading!

Receiving books to read at home will motivate and excite my students and support the literacy development for my striving students who have very few books at home to read.

Daily reading practice at home will help my students maintain and continue their literacy development.
